A Buddhist prayer ceremony at sunrise is a truly spiritual experience. Join the monks of Thiksey Monastery for their daily morning prayers, when the air reverberates with their chants, and follow it up with cups of butter tea.
Ladakh is peppered with revered monasteries, and the 11th-century stupa at Alchi is among the region’s most important holy sites. Follow the Indus River to the Alchi Gompa, resplendent with its Kashmiri-style architecture and Tibetan murals.
Follow a trained camp naturalist on a birding trail to spot the elusive winged species native to the Trans-Himalaya - best suited to early risers.
Try your hand at the local sport of archery, or simply watch the locals practice in a dramatic landscape of rugged mountains.
